Lourdes Academy Elementary Mathematics Program Update

Lourdes Academy teachers Rob Mullen and Karen Coats
participate in a Mathematics instruction workshop on August 17.
Elementary teachers from Lourdes Academy-Cabrini and Seton returned to school on August 17, and spent the afternoon engaged in a training program designed to enhance math instruction and learning. The session was part of a series of math professional development activities that began during the 2015-16 school year and will continue through the upcoming year. To support the new instructional and learning model, Lourdes Academy has implemented Math Expressions as the primary learning resource in grades K-2 for the 2016-17 school year and will expand to grades 3 - 6 in 2017-18.

The Math Expressions materials were chosen after being vetted according to the Diocese of Green Bay textbook approval process and Lourdes Academy protocol which included reviews from teachers, parents, and administrators.  Math Expressions is currently being implemented by over a dozen schools in the Green Bay Diocese and although references to the Common Core are included with the materials, Lourdes Academy continues to align our curriculum with the Diocese of Green Bay Curriculum Standards and implement teaching methods and learning activities designed to best meet the needs of our students.

For more information pertaining to the Diocese of Green Bay K-8 curriculum please read Bishop Ricken's letter and frequently asked questions about the Common Core at: http://www.gbdioc.org/images/stories/Education/Schools/GB-Diocesan-Standards-QA.pdf

Please plan to attend our Elementary Family Math Night on Wednesday, October 5, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Seton Elementary School.
